André Gide (22 novembre ? 19 février ) est un écrivain français. Issu d'une famille de la bourgeoisie protestante, partageant sa vie entre Paris et la Normandie, André Gide assume à partir de son homosexualité lors d'un voyage en Afrique du Nord. Il crée avec ses amis La Nouvelle Revue française dont il est le chef de file. Educated at the Ecole Alsacienne and by private tutors, Gide developed an early interest in literature. He published his first work, The Notebooks of Andre Walter, in and in , his first poems, Walter's Poesies, and Gide travelled to North Africa where, in Algeria, he met Oscar Wilde and Lord Alfred Douglas.
